Older Americans Suffer From Hearing Loss

A study which examined hearing loss in older Americans provided results after analyzing collected data. The study was part of the National Health and Nutritional Examination Survey. Researchers concluded that 63% of older Americans ages 70 and older suffered from mild to severe hearing loss. The New York Times stated this study “may be the first study to gauge hearing impairment in a nationally representative sample of older adults.”

Hearing loss at this age can be improved with the use of hearing aids. Sound levels are altered so that the wearer is able to hear conversations or enjoy a good movie without struggle to comprehend words.
